Whether in a group or individual lessons, we cater to each students needs. The emphasis is on fun and safety, to ensure a pleasurable and safe ocean experience. Classes are designed to be mentally and physically interactive. During the initial 3 hour lesson, beginners are taken through the fundamentals of surfing, ocean awareness, etiquette, and water safety.

The Raglan Surf School has developed and integrated and innovative system of dry land surf board models that allow the Student to experience surfboard dynamics prior to entering the water. RSS is the only surf school in NZ incorporating this interactive teaching technique.

Individuals can be taken from riding the whitewater to gliding along open faced ground swells in just a few lessons.

Beginner Lessons These lessons are designed for the complete beginner and those wanting to improve their skills.
Lessons are held daily through out the year, 7 days a week. Booking is essential.
Beginner lesson $89, includes:
* 3 hour lesson, with 1 hour on the land and two in the water
* This is a group lesson with an instructor/student ratio of maximum 1 to 5 students
* Board and full length wetsuit hire,
* Free pick up from Raglan town and beach transportation
* Free after surf sauna (for afternoon lesson only)

The first lesson is designed to give you an excellent grounding in the sport, and its all about practice after that. Most people take one lesson , then hire a board and wetsuit from us the next day to get some practice in. If you are staying with us and need transport we can take you to the beach each day.
However some like to have extra tution, and multi-lesson packages are available.
